Overview

The 7-Day Machame Route is one of the most popular and successful routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Often referred to as the “Whiskey Route,” Machame offers a more scenic and varied trekking experience than the Marangu Route while providing excellent acclimatization opportunities. The route approaches Kilimanjaro from the southwest, traversing diverse landscapes including rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit zones before reaching Uhuru Peak.

The additional acclimatization days and the climb-high, sleep-low profile make Machame one of the most successful routes on the mountain. The best climbing seasons are from January to March and June to October, when weather conditions are generally favorable and visibility is at its best. The 7-day itinerary achieves an average summit success rate of approximately 85% to 95%, making it one of the most recommended routes for climbers seeking both scenery and a strong chance of reaching the summit.
