Overview
The 6-Day Marangu Route is one of the most popular and comfortable ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Commonly known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” it is the only route on the mountain that provides hut accommodation instead of camping, making it an excellent choice for climbers seeking additional comfort during their trek. The route follows a gradual ascent through lush rainforest, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and finally the arctic summit zone before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
The additional acclimatization day at Horombo Hut significantly improves summit success rates compared to the shorter 5-day version, making it highly recommended for first-time climbers. The best times to climb are from January to March and June to October, when conditions are generally drier and visibility is excellent. With proper preparation and acclimatization, the average summit success rate on the 6-day Marangu Route ranges between 75% and 85%.
