Itinerary
DAY 1
Londorossi Gate (2,100m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)
After breakfast, transfer to Londorossi Gate for registration before continuing to the trailhead. Begin trekking through the lush rainforest zone, home to towering trees, colorful birdlife, and black-and-white colobus monkeys.
The gentle trail gradually ascends to Mti Mkubwa Camp, where you’ll spend your first night on the mountain.

DAY 2
Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m) – Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)
Leave the rainforest behind and enter the heath and moorland zone. As you gain elevation, stunning views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding wilderness begin to unfold.
Arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon and enjoy your first sunset on the mountain.

Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) – Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
Today’s trek is relatively gentle and serves as an important acclimatization stage. Cross the vast Shira Plateau while enjoying spectacular views of Mount Meru, Kibo Peak, and the surrounding landscapes.
Arrive at Shira 2 Camp with time to relax and explore the area.

Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) – Moir Hut (4,200m)

The afternoon offers opportunities for short acclimatization hikes before returning to camp.

Moir Hut (4,200m) – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,950m)
Trek through alpine desert terrain towards Lava Tower before descending into the beautiful Barranco Valley. This climb-high, sleep-low approach further improves acclimatization while providing some of the most spectacular scenery on the mountain.
Barranco Camp sits beneath the towering Barranco Wall and offers unforgettable sunset views.

Barranco Camp (3,950m) – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep in places, the route is non-technical and rewards climbers with incredible views across the southern glaciers and valleys.
Continue through rolling alpine terrain before reaching Karanga Camp.

DAY 7
Karanga Camp (4,035m) – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
Continue your ascent through the alpine desert zone towards Barafu Camp, the final camp before the summit attempt.
Upon arrival, enjoy lunch and spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the most important day of the climb.

DAY 8
Barafu Camp (4,640m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Around midnight, begin your final ascent toward Uhuru Peak. The climb is challenging but immensely rewarding as you steadily make your way to Stella Point and finally the Roof of Africa.
Arrive at Uhuru Peak around sunrise and celebrate one of the greatest achievements in adventure travel. After photographs and time at the summit, descend to Barafu Camp before continuing to Mweka Camp.

Enjoy your final breakfast on the mountain before descending through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
