Maasailand Safari Adventure
The Maasailand Safari Adventure is named for the people and the landscape that define Northern Tanzania’s identity. The Maasai have lived alongside these animals for centuries, and their presence shapes the character of the land we cross. This five-day journey takes you deeper — into the Serengeti, into the crater, and into an understanding of Africa that three or four days simply cannot provide.
This five-day itinerary is built for the traveler seeking genuine depth of experience. It ventures into the Serengeti National Park — Tanzania’s greatest and most famous wilderness — for two consecutive days, offering the kind of extended, unhurried game drives that reveal the full character of this extraordinary ecosystem. Combined with the density of Ngorongoro and the raw beauty of Tarangire, this is a safari narrative with real arc and substance.
DAY 1: Arrival in Arusha — Gateway to the Wild
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your Arusha lodge. The JUA EXPLORER team will welcome you with a full safari briefing, your personalized itinerary and a briefing on what to expect in the days ahead. Rest, acclimatize, and look forward to what begins tomorrow. Dinner and overnight in Arusha.

DAY 2: Ngorongoro Crater — Nature's Greatest Stage
An early start sees you on the road to Ngorongoro, ascending the crater rim through highland forest and emerging onto the extraordinary caldera edge. The descent into the crater is one of the defining moments of any African safari — the world literally opens before you, revealing a landscape unchanged in its essentials since the volcanic activity that created it millions of years ago.
The crater floor supports all of the Big Five in a single enclosed ecosystem. Resident lion prides patrol the open grassland; black rhinoceros move quietly through the acacia scrub; buffalo graze in great dark masses. Elephants here are among the largest individuals found in Tanzania, distinguished by their massive tusks developed over decades of undisturbed life. A full day of game viewing, with lunch in the crater and an ascent to the rim for dinner and overnight.
DAYS 3 & 4: Serengeti National Park — The Endless Plains
Two full days in the Serengeti. The name itself carries the weight of a thousand wildlife documentaries, yet nothing prepares you for the reality of standing in this landscape and understanding its true scale. The Serengeti ecosystem covers over 30,000 square kilometers — an ocean of grass punctuated by kopjes (ancient granite outcrops), acacia groves, and the river courses that carve through it.
Your guide will position you thoughtfully across different zones of the park — following fresh lion tracks to a pride at rest in morning shade, positioning at a waterhole as a cheetah surveys the plains, or pausing at a kopje where leopards are known to haul their kills. Two days allows for both the broad sweep and the focused detail that defines truly memorable safari.
Depending on the time of year, you may witness the Great Migration — the annual movement of 1.5 million wildebeest, 300,000 zebras and countless Thomson's gazelles across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara ecosystem. There is no wildlife spectacle on Earth to match it. Sunrise and sunset game drives are standard practice here, catching the light — and the predators — at their most active. Nights in a Serengeti tented camp bring the sounds of the African night close: the distant cough of a leopard, hyenas calling across the dark, the rumble of lions.

DAY 5: Tarangire National Park — The Land of Giants
Your final safari day in Tarangire is a fitting conclusion — a park of grand, unhurried beauty. The massive baobabs, the sweeping river corridor, the elephant families moving in silhouette against the afternoon sky. After your game drive, you return to Arusha for your final night or onward connection.

THE GREAT MIGRATION — A NOTE ON TIMING
The Great Migration moves through different zones of the Serengeti ecosystem throughout the year. Between July and September, the spectacular river crossings occur at the Mara River in the northern Serengeti. Between January and March, calving takes place on the southern plains near Ndutu. Your JUA EXPLORER guide will interpret the migration’s current position and position you optimally. Please enquire about timing when booking.
